Shot behind Morrisons in Wood Green, London with a Dancer I met on the internet called Chloe Agligianni, she did a great job considering I had no experience of working with Dancers and was right into the spirit of spontaneous creative endeavor. Just putting the finishing touches to a new promo for Saturday Night Gym Club, a new Anglo-Irish Electro-pop band who describe themselves as ‘dancefloor story tellers’ according to the BBC page for their upcoming Radio One Big Weekend show on Saturday the 14th May. I think they’re awesome and really enjoyed working on this video with them. Finished article should be up here in a day or two.

Here’s the finished version of ‘There is a Spark’ by the brain-bendingly, up-my-street, Heat vs Light. We shot this on my Canon 5d2 with a Canon 50mm 1.4 prime, 17mm-40mm 4.0 L series and a crappy 75mm-300mm EF zoomer. I ran the camera and JP Keenan took a directorial role. We edited it together and JP graded it.

Tutorial video on how to create music within the timeline of Final Cut Pro, a technique pioneered by Lasse Gjertsen about 4 years ago in his video Amateur. it can also be seen in action in my iPhone Music Apps video. It’s not the most entertaining video I’ve created but it does explain the most important parts of the process. I can only apologise for my distinct lack of charisma during this tutorial.

I just finished editing these visuals for Saturday Night Gym Club’s remix of the Ellie Walker track ‘I know’. All of the timelapse footage was downloaded from the amazing openfootage.net and stockfootageforfree.com, both sites have a small amount of free HD footage, no massive libraries, just a little collection of really great clips.

Feels like ages since I’ve done anything creative, work has been really dull lately, churning out corporate internals or swinging spanners for cash, this shoot for Heat vs Light for their incredible There is a Spark was highly enjoyable, I love this band and I’m very thankful for the opportunity to work with such talented young men. I tagged along to the final days shoot of Negative Slant Productions’ ‘The Fortune Teller’, a dark short Written, Produced and Directed by Daniel Kenyon.

I was there to supply track and dolly for a couple of shots using Skintdolly [don’t pay a megabux for a T & D system if you’re a poor Indy kid, look on YouTube, there are many DIY tutorials]. (Click the picture to see Skintdolly)

I had a thoroughly nice time, learned a bunch of stuff about storyboarding and am looking forward to seeing the edit. I’ll post here with a little review when it’s completed.

Currently piecing together some footage from last month, shot at the Moon and Sixpence in Glossop, an acoustic performance by three fifths of Rook and the Ravens. Only one Canon 5d mk2 was available [mine] so the other footage was grabbed using a couple of Panasonic camcorders on loan, it’s not perfect but after a good de-interlacing & a spot of grading it looks OK. I’m hoping to hand these clips over to the band this evening assuming I get finished in time.

Click the picture to go to their myspaz page. They’re well worth a do, kind of Americana but with a lovely Northern English thing, delicious vocal harmonies feature throughout.
